Lonesome Rail Blues

  • Out on the lonesome rail, where shadows start to creep,
Train whistle moans and echoes, through the night, I can't sleep.
My heart's a-drifting like the clouds in a storm,
Searching for a shelter, somewhere safe and warm.

Whiskey in my bottle, keeps the chill at bay,
But it don’t drown the sorrow of this hard, lonesome way.
Each mile feels like a river, running cold and deep,
With the memory of a love, that I just couldn't keep.

I see the lights of the city, but they seem so far away,
Every sound is a reminder, of how love led me astray.
These empty tracks beneath me, tell the tales that I know,
Of a soul that’s been wandering, with nowhere left to go.

The storm clouds are gathering, in the distance oh so near,
It’s a darkness like my heart, a weight I cannot clear.
With every rumble rumbling, feeling so out of place,
Searching for that moment, where I found her sweet embrace.

But the train keeps rolling, like my thoughts on this night,
Drifting through a memory, that don't seem so right.
There's a voice in the wind, whispering my name,
A reminder of a love, that now feels like a flame.

So I’ll ride this lonesome rail, let the thunder be my guide,
With every bump and corner, I’m learning how to hide.
As the storm clouds gather, I’ll face them on my own,
Knowing in the end, I’ll find my way back home.

So here's to all the drifters, and the souls that roam astray,
We'll carry our lost stories, and find our light of day.
With every heart that’s heavy, and every tear that falls,
We rise up from the ashes, answering the call.

On this lonesome rail I ride, while the storm begins to wane,
I’ll pack up all my troubles, and dance right through the pain.
For the journey’s long and winding, and the end is still unknown,
But I’ll keep on rolling until I find my way back home.
