Railroad Blues

  • I've been ridin' down this railroad,
With a heart that’s sore and aching,
As the sun sinks low at dusk,
In a world that feels like it's breaking.

The whistle blows a lonesome tune,
    Runnin’ through this weary town,
Each note a shadow on my soul,
I wear my pain like a worn-out crown.

Got my suitcase filled with memories,
Of a love that slipped away,
Every mile feels like a burden,
And the nights turn into endless gray.

The stars are hidden by the clouds,
And the wind it starts to moan,
In the twilight of my dreams,
There’s a chill that cuts like stone.

    Whispers of the passing trains,
Are just echoes of the past,
    Remindin’ me of better days,
But I’m bound to this line, so vast.

Now I walk beside the tracks,
With my heavy heart in hand,
    Countin’ all the lonesome miles,
    In this ever-fading land.

So I’ll keep my head held high,
Through the heartache and the gloom,
'Cause the railroad leads me onward,
    To a brighter, sweeter bloom.

When the dawn breaks soft and low,
And I find my way back home,
I’ll let go of this weary road,
Find peace in the love I’ve grown.

In the silence of the morning,
With the fog lifting from my sight,
I’ll leave behind the railroad blues,
    And step into the light.

Blues

Railroad, aching, dusk, lonesome, weary
